What is R'n'D Jue ?
R'n'D Jue is not only a computer game with currently 4 single programs, but also a “game development tool”. It can be downloaded as freeware for Mac, Linux, Windows and as an Android version, but can also be played “online” in a browser without any download or installation.
“R'n'D” stands for ‘Rocks'n'Diamonds’ (the legendary program by Holger Schemel, already published in 1995), the suffix ‘jue’ is taken from the first name of the R'n'D jue author Juergen Bonhagen. Both programs use the same source code, but have little in common in terms of content and appearance.
While R'n'D is designed to maintain and revitalize the Boulder Dash/Emerald Mine feeling of the early computer years, R'n'D jue uses the design features of the original program to create game and menu graphics in its own style, as well as the potential of the unique R'n'D Level Editor to develop its own game ideas. Even those that seem to completely contradict the original orientation of R'n'D as a former Boulder Dash clone.
There is also a clear difference between the original and its modification in terms of game genre. While R'n'D can be categorized as a game of skill and action, R'n'D jue belongs more to the “brain game” category and is aimed at the unfortunately ever-shrinking community of puzzling and tinkering enthusiasts.
R'n'D jue Chronicle
Already in the year 2002 "Jue Level Sets" could be loaded inside the classic R'n'D and in 2007, the so called "R'n'D JUE" was first released as a separate program with own default settings and an own profile.
After a long break, the first version in full HD resolution followed in 2019, which was based on a graphic redesign of all game and menu elements. For the first time, “global.animations” were used in the menu, which provided a lot of liveliness, an interactive help system was integrated and the level editor was extended on the surface so that it allowed comfortable working with 1920x1200 pixels.
In 2022, it was primarily the long loading times on weaker computers that made it necessary to split up the very memory-intensive 2019 program package. Since then, there have been 4 R'n'D Jue standalone programs, namely: Boulder Dash/Emerald Mine - style puzzles (1), Sokoban Edition and Sokoplus (2), as well as the solo games Puzznic (3) and Pipeline (4).
